Family dentistry in Ashgrove

You will know the price before we begin.

Lumen is a five-chair practice on Linden Street. Cleanings, crowns, kids, and the occasional Sunday night. Our starting prices are printed further down this page, and the full number is in your hand, in writing, before anything is picked up.

What things cost

Prices, on the website, where they belong.

Every number here is what a straightforward version of that visit costs at Lumen, before insurance. Yours may be different, and we will say so before we start, not after.

How we quote. If we can price it from the exam, you get a printed plan with a total that day. If we cannot price it until we see an x-ray or get under an old filling, we tell you that out loud, give you the range, and stop to ask before we pass the top of it.

New patient visit

$189
About 70 minutes

A full exam, a complete set of x-rays, photographs you get to look at with us, a cleaning, and a written plan for anything we find.

What changes it: if your gums need a deeper cleaning we stop, show you the measurements, and quote it. That is $240 per side and it is never done the same day without your yes.

Cleaning and check-up

$145
Every six months

Scale and polish with one of our two hygienists, an exam, and the two bitewing x-rays we take once a year.

What changes it: nothing, unless something has changed since your last visit. Then you hear about it in the chair.

Whitening

from$250
Trays $250, in office $395

Custom take-home trays with two weeks of gel, or a single ninety-minute in-office appointment. We will tell you which one suits your teeth.

What changes it: crowns and fillings do not whiten. If your front teeth have old work in them, we show you what will and will not match first.

Crown

from$1,150
Milled and fitted here

A porcelain crown designed, milled, and seated in our own lab room. Most are one appointment, about two and a half hours.

What changes it: if the tooth needs a build-up underneath first, that is $185, and we know before you sit down whether it will.

Implant, all three stages

from$3,400
Post, abutment, crown

One number covering the whole thing, spread across the four to six months it takes. You pay each stage as it happens, not up front.

What changes it: a graft, if there is not enough bone to hold the post. We can see that on the scan at the consult, which is free.

Emergency visit

$95
Same day where we can

An exam, one x-ray, and something done about the pain. We hold two slots every weekday morning for people who called the night before.

What changes it: nothing. If you have the treatment with us that same week, the $95 comes off the bill.

Composite fillingfrom $210
Extractionfrom $265
Root canalfrom $890
Night guard$420

Prices last reviewed in June 2026. Children under three are seen for a look and a count for free, because it takes four minutes and it is how you get a six-year-old who is not frightened.

Your first visit

What actually happens, minute by minute.

Written for the person who has not been in a few years and has been putting off the phone call. Nothing here is a surprise, which is the point.
  1. 01

    Before you come

Bring a photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of anything you take. The new patient form is one page. We email it the night before, or you fill it in at the desk. We genuinely do not mind which.

  2. 02

    The front desk

Dana checks you in and asks one question most offices do not: is there anything about dentists that makes this hard for you. If you say yes, she writes it on the chart, and everyone who comes near you that day has read it.

  3. 03

    The chair

X-rays and photographs first, then a full look at every tooth and your gums. The screen faces you. When we find something, you are looking at the same picture we are, and we say what it is in words you already know.

  4. 04

    The number

Before anything else happens you get a printed plan with prices, what your insurance is likely to cover, and what is urgent versus what can wait a year. You can take it home. Nothing is treated on a first visit unless you ask us to treat it.

  5. 05

    Leaving

About seventy minutes from door to door. We book the next cleaning at the desk and text a reminder a week out. If you want a night to think about the plan, that is the normal answer, not the awkward one.

The signal

Raise your left hand and we stop.

Not once this bit is finished. Not in a second. We stop, the water goes off, and you tell us what you need. It costs us thirty seconds and it is the only reason some of our patients come back.

Insurance and paying

The part every dental website hides.

We are in network with most of the big plans, we file the claim for you either way, and if you have no insurance at all there is a plan for that too.
Delta Dental PPO Cigna DPPO Aetna PPO MetLife PDP Guardian United Concordia Blue Cross Blue Shield Ameritas

If you have insurance

Bring the card on the first visit and Dana verifies your benefits before you go back to the chair, so the estimate you get is the real one.

  • We file every claim ourselves, in network or out
  • You pay your share on the day, nothing more
  • Out of network, we estimate the gap before you agree
  • If a claim is denied, we appeal it once at no charge

Plans change every January. Call and ask before you assume you are covered, it takes Dana about four minutes to check.

If you have none

$29
Per month, or $310 a year

The Lumen membership. About a third of our patients are on it, most of them self-employed.

  • Two cleanings and two exams a year
  • One full set of x-rays a year
  • Fifteen percent off everything else on this page
  • No deductible, no waiting period, no annual maximum

To be plain about it: this is a discount plan we run ourselves, not insurance. Cancel any month, and we will tell you if a real policy would serve you better.

If you need time

Nobody should leave a tooth broken because payday is the fifteenth. Two ways to spread it, and neither one needs a conversation you will find embarrassing.

  • In house, interest free, up to 12 months on treatment over $600
  • No credit check on the in-house plan for existing patients
  • Third-party health financing if you want longer terms
  • Urgent work first, the rest sequenced across two budget years

Third-party plans set their own interest and terms, and we will read them with you before you sign anything.

Who you will see

Two dentists, two hygienists, one desk.

Small on purpose. You get the same hygienist most visits, which is how anyone notices what changed since March.
Dr. Priya Raman in scrubs, standing by a window in the practice, smiling

Dr. Priya Raman

DDS, Ashfield University, 2011
Restorative and implant dentistry

Priya spent eight years in a twelve-chair group practice before opening Lumen in 2017, mostly because she was tired of patients finding out the cost at the front desk on the way out. She does the crowns and the implants, and she still calls people herself the evening after a long appointment.

Dr. Owen Baptiste

DMD, Calder School of Dental Medicine, 2016
Family and children's care

Owen sees most of our under-twelves and is entirely unbothered by a bad day in the chair. He shows a nervous seven-year-old the mirror, the water squirter, and the little vacuum, and lets them hold each one, before anything goes near a tooth. Consults in French on request.

Marisol Vega, RDH

Registered dental hygienist, 12 years
Local anesthesia certified

Marisol runs our gum health program and keeps the notes that catch the slow changes. If it has been ten years since your last cleaning, ask for her when you book. She has heard every version of the story and she does not lecture.

Patients

Three things people tell us.

I had a printed estimate in my hand before anyone touched me. First time in my adult life.
Nadia R., patient since 2019
They found a crack, turned the screen around, showed me, and said it could wait six months. It waited.
Jess T., patient since 2021
My son is seven and he did not cry. I am not sure I have a longer review than that.
Peter M., patient since 2023

Out of hours

It is 9pm on a Sunday and something is wrong.

Call (555) 555-0183. It rings the dentist on call, seven nights a week, until 10pm, holidays included. After ten, leave a message: Dana reads them at 6:45am and we hold two slots every weekday morning for exactly this.

A tooth came out whole

Hold it by the crown and not the root. Keep it in milk, or tucked in your cheek, and call the line. Do not scrub it clean.

Broken tooth or lost filling

Rinse with warm salt water and keep the area clean. Call tonight if it hurts, in the morning if it does not.

Swelling with a fever

If the swelling is spreading, or it is getting hard to swallow, go to the emergency room first and call us after. That one is not a dental appointment.
